Wilhall anti-gang violence Mural
Acrylic on Stucco, 70' wide x 40' high
Location: Wilmington, CA.
Painted 1976 -Restored 1996 and 2004

Painted to decry gang violence, the Wilhall mural at the Wilmington Recreation Center has been a symbol of peace in the Wilmington community for the past 28 years. In 1996 I was asked to restore (repaint) the mural by a community-based group where I was assisted by volunteers ranging in age from 7 to 44 years old. A dedication ceremony was held upon its completion with the community and local government representatives in attendance, as well as a live broadcast on Channel 2 CBS news. I met several youths who had their bodies tattooed with an image of my mural. In September of 2004 I repainted the bottom 20 feet of the mural as it had been damaged by graffiti and soccer players bouncing their balls off the mural.
