"Father Hidalgo " Mural
Acrylic Paint, 12' wide x 16' high
Location: Venice, CA. Painted in 1980

This mural was commissioned by Universal Studios as an outdoor stage backdrop for the Chicano gang film "Walk Proud", starring Robbie Benson in the lead role. I painted the revolutionary priest, Father Hidalgo who lead the Mexican peoples' struggle for independence from Spain. My painting of Hidalgo served as a metaphor for the Chicano struggle against Hollywood gang exploitation films. I painted the work as six 4' x 8' panels that I couldn't store, so I cut them into smaller pieces and made new paintings.
