Frida
with Flower Boa
Pastel on Paper, 22”x26"

"I
did this pastel illustration to symbolize the pain
and suffering that surrounded Frida Kahlo’s life and
how she turned it into something beautiful (flowers).
She never overcamed her suffering but learned to deal
with it in her own way, which was through her art.
The
Mexican King snake around Frida’s neck represents
Frida’s trolley car accident as a girl and her lifelong
struggle with the physical and mental pain of it.
The snake is viewed as a cursed animal, going back
to the garden of Eden."
